Is hemp the answer to helping save the earth?

Eric Martin has submitted this piece for discussion.  He brings up some interesting questions that need answering in the political arena. Thank you Eric for your ideas.

"What, if any, negatives are there to growing hemp and utilizing it productively and responsibly? Why hasn't hemp been utilized by every nation on earth to create a more nutrient rich soil, an easy to grow cash crop, a strong crop that doesn't require pesticides or damaging fertilizers, a solution to the disappearing forests, a natural and organic plant in all environments, and a piece to the puzzle of healing our Gaia?

Does someone need to stand up and tell the farmers that this is the answer to their prayers? Does someone need to tell the pulp and paper producers that hemp is the future of the industry with a cheap and easy replacement for the timber that they use? Does someone need to tell the cattle farmers in Brazil that by growing hemp they won't need to burn down the rainforests? That the soil will be able to grow the grasses that their cattle feed on better after hemp is grown.

Does someone need to tell the leaders of starving African countries that hemp could be an answer to the disappearing topsoil and growing desert, and an easy to grow cash crop? What about the cotton growers that rely on huge amounts of fertilizers and pesticides that leave the soil poisoned and toxic? Wouldn't hemp be a better choice for a crop to grow than cotton for this reason alone? Why has plastic and synthetics replaced the historic uses of hemp? Why has hemp been abandoned by farmers and demonized with encouragement from agricultural ministers?

I have many questions about hemp because I see so many positives and benefits from hemp that aren't being utilized by men. I believe that hemp has been pushed out of our life by greedy men with short narrow vision. Greed is not a good reason to destroy the earth's environment. Greedy men are not going to stop me from expressing my ideas to how hemp could help heal our destruction.

We have all had a hand in the destruction and we all have to be responsible for healing our damage. I am not a farmer and I am not a leader of men. I can't be the first person to have these thoughts or even to have written them down. I am just a man who sees that maybe people just aren't aware of the benefits of such a plant. That maybe no one has said to the right people, what I am saying. Maybe if I write down my thoughts about hemp, the right person sees it and acts.

Maybe I am wrong and all the people that could embrace this gift and utilize it to its full potential, all the people with the power to change the ideas about hemp and the laws that limit the production of this healing manifestation, don't act. Maybe something is stopping them from doing the right thing. Maybe it is just ignorance. Maybe it is greed from competitors that have different priorities. Maybe our leaders are not really leading us but misleading us. Maybe the right men aren't leading us.

Are we going to let the leaders of our world pass on any tool, that has this many environmentally positive benefits, in this age of our spiritual awakening? Are we going to let our leaders fail us in the task of healing the damage done to our environment? These men serve us with very little regard for our wishes and our health. We need a revolution to have happened yesterday. We need men with courage to stand up to the lobbyists reject the bribes and do the right thing. We need men with a conscious to lead us and change our dying world into a world that is thriving and bubbling with life. We need to use every tool that we can find to heal the colossal damage that we have done to our world. Someone is in the position to do something about hemp and they must use its gifts.

We must encourage our Agricultural ministers to sing the praises of hemp. It is the least that we could do to help heal the damage to the environment. We must make responsible decisions as consumers and choose hemp products to create a demand. We all have to do our part if we are to grow into the spiritually conscious society that we could be. We are all of the same loving energy source. We all come from the earth and are a part of the whole. We are Gaia. We heal the earth, we heal ourselves and I believe that hemp will help.”  by Eric Martin  02.14.07  16:20
