Gaia Capitalists of Jatropha Oil Fields
"The story of Jatropha Oil Fields is one of bringing people together from two distant cultures and two very different countries. Paul Dalton, founder of Dream Fuels, Ltd. discovered years ago that Costa Rica’s Rain Forest had been decimated by the over development of the cattle industry during the late 70's and early 80's. Starting a few years back, he found that one couple, Steve and Sherry Brunner, were doing something about this problem. The Brunner’s through their purchase of several abandoned cattle ranches were able to change the depleted rain forests of south central Costa Rica from wasteland into once again the beautiful lush green rainforests that had once been there.
With the passage of time and the help of many investors like Paul & Ellen Dalton, the Brunner’s have planted over 2 million tropical hardwoods. Their example has served as our inspiration to attack another problem, the lack of use of non agricultural land to help fight Global Warming. Reforestation is a vital and necessary part of the solution to Global Warming, but some land is not suitable for growing trees. Using Jatropha, biodiesel production can occur on land not suitable for growing trees. It can be grown on arid non agricultural land and thus does not compete with trees or food crops. This is a very important fact for anyone concerned with the issues of deforestation and/or food versus fuel, in developing countries. By not diverting land that is currently being used to grow food or could be used to restore a rainforest, Jatropha is setting the stage to become the premiere source of biodiesel, without any of the negative tradeoffs associated with other feedstock sources.
By partnering with Dr. Sudheer A. Shetty of Labland BioTechs, one of India's few companies possessing the high-tech know-how for plant propagation through tissue culture on a large scale, Jatropha Oil Fields is poised to make a great contribution to the global bioenergy industry.
“ Our Commitment” by Paul S. Dalton, Esq., CFP, & Dr. Sudheer Shetty, Ms., Ph.D. LabLand “We all have watched the price of gasoline and diesel fuel surge to unprecedented heights and have often felt helpless. Our friends overseas have had to pay higher prices for their gas or diesel fuel for much longer. Perhaps that is why in 2004, Germany alone, consumed 126 million gallons of Biodiesel fuel compared to only 30 million gallons being consumed in the US. All over the world we are seeing a rising demand for energy. In China, for example, some experts predict an annual increase in automobiles on the road of 100%.
Often we are asked, what can one person do? While there is no single answer, we must all look within, to see what seems right for each of us. Despite the disinformation being circulated through the media, Global Warming is real and potentially far more dangerous than any terrorist threat. Big Oil would like to see things continue as they are. In the past, we may have thought that we just had to just watch helplessly, while prices continued to raise. But, a lot has changed in recent years and much is yet to come. Whatever the future brings, this company must be guided by visions and principles.
This is our commitment: Profit does not have to come at the expense of conscience and good values. Honesty is not the best policy, it is the only policy. Excellence is not so much a goal as a way of doing business. We all have a set of unique talents, and it is up to us to harness those talents to make the world a better place for all. In pursuing our solutions to the problems of rising energy consumption and Global Warming, we are committed to the following objectives:
Honesty. We will be open and honest with everyone in everything we do.
Excellence. From the development of our seedlings, to the choosing of the farmland to plant on, to the selection of the equipment used to produce our biodiesel, we will pursue excellence in everything that we do.
Conservation. We will strive to protect and improve all lands where we plant Jatropha, as well as the surrounding community. We will add value by practicing good husbandry and will always conduct business with the entire ecological system in mind.
Education. We will work to help everyone understand how they can make a real contribution to protect against Global Warming and establish a true basis of sustainable and renewable resources for the production of biodiesel. We will share our expertise with farmers to help them understand how they can contribute to a better environment and simultaneously provide a higher standard of living for themselves and their communities.
Community. In addition to focusing on profit for our Jatropha owners, we will always strive to be a benefit to all with whom we come into contact, especially our workers, and to help all of our neighboring communities, their schools and their churches.
Continuity. We are committed to having our business continue beyond our existence. Our corporation is designed to share our knowledge, beliefs, values, authority and responsibility with our employees with the objective that they may continue on without us.
Nothing can be accomplished without teamwork. Our team includes countless individuals; many more than the great people in our labs and farms. It involves people like you, tired of the way things are, eager for the way things could be, committed to real change for the betterment of all.”
